The object spawner and the servers that it launches call the getaddrinfo name resolver function to resolve IP address information when they are started. If this information is not provided by the hosts file or the Domain Name System (DNS), then the object spawner fails to start. One workaround is to add the fully qualified domain name to the hosts file. However, this workaround might be inconvenient in certain situations such as when a DNS server does not exist and when the machine is used on multiple networks.
A new alternative workaround is to add -dnsname localhost to the object spawner launch command. This workaround prevents the object spawner and the servers that it launches from treating failures from these calls as errors. This workaround can also address DNS-lookup delays, which can result in slow workspace server start-up.
Note: This workaround should be used only on a single-machine deployment.
